Taco Rice Bowl With Homemade Taco Seasoning
Ingredients
Homemade Taco Seasoning
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- ½ Tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Taco Bowl
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- ¼ medium red onion, finely chopped
- 1 Serrano pepper, ½ finely chopped ½ coarsely chopped
- ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro
- 3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
- Kosher salt
- 1 small yellow onion, coarsely chopped
- 6 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
- 2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 lb Big Lost ground beef
- 2 Tbsp homemade taco seasoning
- Cooked rice, sliced avocado, tortilla chips, shredded lettuce, and lime wedges for serving
Instructions
- Start with making the salsa – toss tomato, red onion, finely chopped Serrano pepper, cilantro, and lime juice in a small bowl to combine; season with salt. Set aside.
- Pulse coarsely chopped Serrano pepper, yellow onion, and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high. Brown your ground beef. Add onion mixture and taco seasoning; cook, stirring often, until it begins to stick to pan. Pour in ½ cup water, scraping up any browned bits stuck to bottom of pan. Cook, stirring often, until sauce is slightly thickened.
- Divide spiced beef and rice among bowls. Serve with avocado, tortilla chips, lettuce, lime wedges, and homemade salsa.
